Acne — Why Is Treatment More Than Acne Extraction?

Acne — Why Is Treatment More Than Acne Extraction? DIVA Poipet explains Closed comedones are not the same and Oily skin does not mean it should.

DIVA Skin Clinic Poipet

Acne is one of the most common skin concerns, but it is also one of the easiest to oversimplify. Many people believe acne appears only because the skin is dirty, oily, or not extracted regularly. As a result, familiar responses are stronger cleansing, self-extraction, professional extraction, or buying another acne serum. These methods may make the surface look cleaner in the short term, but they do not always control the reasons acne continues to form.

Acne commonly involves several combined factors: sebum, keratin cells blocking follicles, inflammatory responses, skin microorganisms, hormones, lifestyle habits, and the products being used. Even when two people both have acne, their main issue can be different. One person may mainly have closed comedones and blackheads. Another may have red, painful inflammatory acne. Another may develop many small bumps after using too many acids or retinol products.

  • Closed comedones are not the same as inflammatory acne

Closed comedones commonly appear as small bumps beneath the skin, with a rough surface and no easily visible contents. Inflammatory acne may be red, painful, swollen, or contain pus. These two conditions should not be treated in the same way.

Skin that is mainly congested may need appropriate cleansing, oil control, and controlled support for shedding keratin cells. Skin with significant inflammation needs inflammation reduction as a priority and should avoid overly strong impact. If all lesions are extracted from inflamed skin, the skin may be further damaged and the risk of dark marks or scarring can increase.

  • Oily skin does not mean it should be cleansed aggressively

Many clients see shiny skin and wash their face many times, use alcohol toners, daily acids, or strong oil-control products. The surface may become dry while the oil glands remain active. When the skin barrier weakens, the skin can become red, sting, and develop more small bumps.

The goal is not to make the skin completely dry, but to keep the surface clean, reduce congestion, and maintain recovery capacity. A basic routine often needs a gentle cleanser, suitable treatment products, moisturiser, and sunscreen.

  • Acne extraction is only one part

Proper extraction can support suitable lesions that have already formed and reduce visible congestion. However, if the skin continues to produce oil, uses pore-clogging products, has irregular sleep, or is self-extracted afterwards, new acne can still appear.

Acne treatment needs to consider the full process: controlling current lesions, reducing the formation of new lesions, limiting inflammation, protecting the skin barrier, and reducing the risk of dark marks and scars.

  • Stronger active ingredients are not always better

BHA, azelaic acid, retinoids, niacinamide, and different peels can all be used in appropriate cases. However, using many active ingredients at once does not mean faster results.

Sensitive skin or skin that has recently undergone treatment may not tolerate high-frequency use. When redness, burning, itching, extensive peeling, or widespread small bumps appear, the plan needs reassessment rather than a continued increase in active ingredients.

  • Acne can be related to lifestyle and health

Night-shift schedules, stress, irregular eating, prolonged makeup use, wearing a helmet or mask for many hours can all make the condition harder to stabilise. Some cases of severe acne, rapid spread, scarring, or acne accompanied by hormonal changes need medical evaluation.

An aesthetic clinic should not try to solve every case only through facial treatments, peels, or laser. When signs are beyond the scope of support, clients need to be referred to an appropriate medical facility.

  • Clinic treatment and home care need to work together

A treatment session can help reduce congestion, support inflammation control, or improve the skin surface. However, results are difficult to stabilise if clients continue self-extraction, change products constantly, or neglect moisturising and sunscreen.

Home care does not need to be complicated. What matters is the right product, the right frequency, and a plan the client can maintain.

DIVA’s Perspective

DIVA Skin Clinic Poipet

At DIVA, acne treatment does not begin by choosing a device or a peel. The first step is identifying the main concern: inflammation, congestion, a weak skin barrier, product-related irritation, or a combination of factors.

Only then is an appropriate direction selected for the first session. Some cases need inflammation control. Some need recovery first. Some may use peel, mesotherapy, Pico, LED, or other supportive methods. The goal is not to do the most in one session, but to do what the skin needs at that time.

Conclusion

Acne is not merely a collection of spots that need to be removed from the skin. It is a condition that needs assessment according to lesion type, degree of inflammation, skin-barrier health, current products, and lifestyle habits.

To create sustainable improvement, both existing lesions and the process that creates new acne need to be controlled. Clinic treatment and home care need to support the same objective rather than moving in different directions.
