How Are Pico 755 nm and 532 nm Selected Differently?

How Are Pico 755 nm and 532 nm Selected Differently? DIVA Poipet explains The 532 nm Wavelength and The 755 nm Wavelength.

DIVA Skin Clinic Poipet

Introduction

Pico laser can use multiple wavelengths, including 755 nm and 532 nm, which are often discussed for pigmentation goals. The two wavelengths are not two stronger-or-weaker levels of the same mode. They have different melanin absorption and penetration characteristics, so they are selected according to colour, depth, and lesion type. Beyond pigmentation, Pico can also support pores, surface texture, and shallow scars when an appropriate photomechanical mode is used. Therefore, describing Pico only as a laser for melasma or spot removal is incomplete.

The 532 nm Wavelength

Watch: real treatment media from DIVA. Individual results vary.

Melanin absorbs 532 nm more strongly, and it generally affects more superficial layers. It may be considered for some superficial brown or red pigmentation, surface spots, and suitable ink colours. Because absorption in the epidermis is strong, the risk of surface reaction and PIH needs consideration, especially in darker skin. 532 nm is not the default choice for every brown spot. The depth, colour, and nature of the lesion need assessment first.

The 755 nm Wavelength

The 755 nm wavelength penetrates more deeply and has different melanin selectivity from 532 nm. It may be suitable for some deeper pigmentation, certain ink colours, and fractional modes that support the surface. For enlarged pores, rough texture, and shallow scars, Pico 755 can be used to create sub-surface effects that support restructuring with relatively controlled downtime. However, effectiveness depends on the treatment handpiece, pulse mode, and baseline skin, not only on wavelength.

It Cannot Be Selected Only by Visible Colour

A brown patch may be epidermal pigment, dermal pigment, mixed pigment, or post-treatment inflammation. Photo lighting also changes colour. Selecting 532 nm simply because a patch looks brown, or 755 nm because deeper is assumed to be always better, increases the risk of targeting incorrectly. DIVA combines observation, analysis devices when needed, appearance history, and previous reactions. Some cases need a test or a light starting session to observe response.

Pico for Pores and Surface Texture

Pico does not only break up pigment. With a fractional handpiece or suitable mode, energy can create micro-impact zones beneath the skin that support improvement of texture, pores, and shallow scars. When pores are caused by oil and congestion, baseline control needs to be combined; when they result from loss of elasticity or scarring, RF Microneedling or another method may be needed. DIVA may combine Pico and RF Microneedling in stages to address surface texture, structure, and shallow scars, rather than use one technology for every cause.

DIVA Selects According to the Goal

If the goal is clear pigmentation spots, wavelength and handpiece are selected according to colour and depth. If the goal is pores, texture, or shallow scars, fractional mode and a combined plan are considered. For melasma, controlling inflammation and recurrence risk are prioritised; Pico is not considered a permanent erasing solution. Weak or recently irritated skin may need recovery first. Each session should have one main goal to avoid stacking too many impacts.

Expectations and Reactions

After Pico, skin may have mild redness, warmth, swelling, or temporary darkening. Superficial pigmented spots can become darker before fading. With texture modes, clients may see the surface gradually become smoother over several weeks. Pores do not close completely, and shallow scars commonly need multiple sessions or combination approaches. DIVA does not assess results immediately while skin is still swollen or brighter due to an immediate reaction. Monitoring photos need to be taken after an appropriate interval.

Risks and Limitations

Risks include burns, PIH, hypopigmentation, melasma flares, prolonged redness, and uneven results. Risk increases when the wrong wavelength or energy is selected or treatment is performed on inflamed skin. Pico is not completely painless and does not have zero downtime. Settings cannot be copied between devices or clients. DIVA does not publish operational settings and does not let clients self-select 755 or 532; this decision is part of professional assessment.

Conclusion

755 nm and 532 nm are selected according to pigmentation goals, depth, skin tone, and treatment mode. Pico also has an important role for pores, texture, and shallow scars, especially when appropriately combined with RF Microneedling or supportive methods. At DIVA, clients do not need to choose a wavelength. They only need to describe their concern and expectations; DIVA will select a suitable direction, begin with one session, and assess the response before building the next step.
