HIFU — More Shots Do Not Necessarily Create Better Lifting
HIFU — More Shots Do Not Necessarily Create Better Lifting. DIVA Poipet explains How HIFU works and Who may be suitable?.
HIFU uses focused ultrasound energy to create heat points at defined depths. It is commonly promoted for lifting, facial slimming, and improving sagging. In the market, clients can easily compare services by the number of shots. However, shot count is only technical information, not the only standard of effectiveness.
- How HIFU works
Ultrasound energy is focused into target tissue layers, creating controlled heat points and activating contraction and collagen-remodelling processes. Different treatment handpieces target different depths.
To achieve results, the shot pattern, areas being treated, depth, and energy level need to be suitable. Delivering many shots in the wrong distribution may not create visible lifting and can increase pain or unnecessary reactions.
- Who may be suitable?
HIFU is commonly suitable for people with mild-to-moderate sagging, a less-defined jawline, or reduced skin quality who do not yet need surgery.
People with very thin faces, low facial fat, or severe laxity need careful assessment. Treating the wrong areas can make the face appear more hollow rather than more attractive.
- What does HIFU not address?
HIFU does not replace filler when volume is lacking, does not replace Botox for strong muscle activity, and does not remove significant excess skin. It is also not a primary method for pigmentation, acne, or scars.
A tired-looking face may be caused by volume loss, dry skin, strong muscle pull, or sagging. If the cause is diagnosed incorrectly, HIFU may not meet expectations.
- Is shot count important?
Shot count needs to be sufficient to cover the treatment area, but more is not automatically better. Face size, treatment area, cartridge, shot spacing, and objective all require different numbers.

Clients should ask which areas will be treated, which objective is being addressed, and the expected duration rather than asking only how many shots a package includes.
- Reactions and risks
After HIFU, there may be tightness, tenderness when touched, mild swelling, or temporary numbness. Rare but important risks include prolonged pain, nerve injury, burns, unwanted fat loss, or asymmetry.
If numbness, muscle weakness, facial asymmetry, or increasing persistent pain occurs, assessment is needed.
- Time to see results
Some people see mild tightening early, but remodelling takes time. Results commonly increase gradually over several weeks to months and differ according to age, degree of sagging, and tissue quality.
The same duration of effect should not be promised to everyone.
- Combining HIFU
HIFU can be combined within a plan with RF, Botox, filler, skin booster, or skin-quality care. Each method addresses a different component.

Order and spacing need consideration to avoid doing too much at one time.
- DIVA’s Perspective
At DIVA, clients do not need to choose shot count before an assessment. What matters is the degree of sagging, facial structure, areas where fat needs to be preserved, and the maintenance objective.
DIVA can present service levels according to expected results and duration, but the actual method still needs to be adjusted for each face.
Conclusion
HIFU can support lifting and firmness for the right candidate, but it is not a solution for every face. More shots do not replace structural assessment and an appropriate energy-distribution technique.
Clients should choose based on their objective, suitability, practitioner, and post-treatment follow-up, not only an advertised number.
