Botox — Uses, Limitations, Risks, and Why It Should Not Be Injected According to Trends
Botox — Uses, Limitations, Risks, and Why It Should Not Be Injected According to Trends. DIVA Poipet explains How it works and Common indications.
Botox is the name clients commonly use for botulinum toxin products. This method can reduce activity in certain muscle groups for a period of time, thereby supporting dynamic wrinkles, jawline slimming, or other indications. However, Botox is not filler, does not create volume, and is not suitable for every sign of ageing.
- How it works
Botulinum toxin reduces nerve-to-muscle signalling in the injection area. When muscle activity is weaker, expression-related wrinkles may soften and strongly developed muscles may gradually appear slimmer.
Results depend on the product, dosage, injection site, depth, and each person’s muscle characteristics. The same number of units injected into two different faces can create different results.
- Common indications
Botulinum toxin is commonly considered for forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, enlarged jaw muscles, a gummy smile, or some downward-pulling muscle areas. Each indication needs its own map and dose.
Clients with a large face due to fat or bone will not become clearly slimmer through jaw Botox alone. People with deep folds due to volume loss also cannot resolve them simply by weakening muscle activity.
- When should it not be injected?
It should not be injected into an infected area, when a client has certain neuromuscular conditions, a history of unusual reactions, or a situation requiring medical assessment. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, current medication, and recent procedures need to be disclosed.
If a product has an unclear source, no longer has packaging, or storage conditions cannot be established, the procedure should not be performed.
- Limitations
Botox does not rejuvenate the whole face, does not lift tissue in place of HIFU, and does not add volume in place of filler. Excessive injection can make expression stiff, weigh down the brows, or create imbalance between muscle groups.

Results last only for a period. Muscle activity gradually returns, and duration varies according to the area, dose, individual factors, and habits.
- Common reactions
After injection, there may be redness, needle points, mild bruising, headache, or a heavy sensation in the area. Results do not appear immediately but build over the following days.
Clients are commonly advised not to massage the injection area strongly, not to self-treat it with devices, and to monitor for unusual signs.
- Risks
Risks may include eyelid drooping, uneven brows, an asymmetric smile, unintended muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, or rare systemic reactions. Risk is directly related to anatomy, site, dose, and product quality.
If difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, widespread weakness, or an unusual reaction occurs, immediate medical assessment is needed.
- Why should clients not choose by price per unit?
Botulinum toxin products do not necessarily convert units in exactly the same way. A low price does not reveal the actual amount used, dilution, origin, or technique.

Clients should know the product name, injection area, objective, and review plan. They should not request a very large dose merely to make results last longer.
- Combining Botox
Botox can be combined within a plan with filler, HIFU, skin booster, or skin technology. Each method addresses a different component. Muscle activity, volume, sagging tissue, and surface quality need to be distinguished.
- DIVA’s Perspective
At DIVA, Botox is selected after assessing muscle activity and the objective. It is not injected simply according to someone else’s photo or a unit number requested by the client.
Clients need clear information about the product, area, cost, and limitations. If the concern does not lie in muscle activity, DIVA needs to explain this rather than inject merely to complete a service.
Conclusion
Botox can create natural results when used for the right muscle, at the right dose, and for the right objective. It can also create asymmetry or unwanted expression when performed according to a generic formula.
What matters is not whether more or less is injected, but whether the dose suits the structure and function of the face.
